I had a great long weekend, kind of quiet but I got heaps done. I went for two long swims, which made me feel a lot better after my recent lack of exercise due to sore knees. My eating over the long weekend was pretty moderate too - which is surprising for me since ‘me time’ has often equalled ‘binge time’ in the past. But the (slightly modified) 100 day challenge is still going strong, so that helped a lot.
I got back into the gym this week, not running, but doing short stints on the cross trainer and mixing that with light weights. My knee held up pretty well.
Following a couple of long walks in my running shoes and another pair of trainers which were originally bought for walking, I’ve realised that the problem with my knee is definitely due to the runners. After a long walk in the runners, they ached, and I noticed that I was rolling in on my feet quite a bit in them as well. After walking in the other shoes the same distance, i had almost no pain at all. And I suddenly remembered that on the day that they really started to hurt after that bush walk, I was wearing the runners as well.
So there you have it folks - to avoid knee pain, get your trainers fitted properly, and REPLACE THEM EVERY YEAR! I’ve got a new pair on order right now. In the meantime, I will stick to easy workouts.
In other news, I got word yesterday that my finance was approved for a new villa! So I will soon be a home owner. It will be very exciting to move into my own place, but a bit scary too. I’m going to be very broke for a very long time!

Today is day 50 of my 100 day challenge and a good time to reset the challenge, not to day one, but back to the entire challenge. I have let a few of the original goals slip, while maintaining the core ‘no junk food’ challenge.
So, for the next 50 days,
No junk food,
No lollies
No chips or chocolate,
No more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day
No nibblies at social events.
And 3 exercise sessions a week, even if I have to find something other than running to do!

Friday will be day 50 of my no junk food challenge. I haven’t had any chocolate, chips or fast food for that long. I haven’t lost much weight either, but that’s maybe because I haven’t been exercising due to my sore knee, which is not improving nearly as fast as I would like. It’s very frustrating. I’ve been walking a bit, but it’s just not the same and doesn’t feel at all effective if I don’t get my heart rate up.
I’m just feeling irritated today, More than a week till TTOM so I guess it’s just work stress. Looking forward to the long weekend!

Well, the core elements of the challenge are still technically holding in there - no chips, chocolate, fast food. The rest of the challenge is pretty much in tatters - I’ve had cheese and biscuits, and a couple of sweet things like an ice cream, and plenty of alcohol. I know I said at the beginning of this that i would starty at the begining if I messed this up, but after forty days I just don’t have the heart to. So I’m going to continue with the ‘modified’ challenge, and continue to avoid those core things.
I took some days off this week to spend with a new flame - it’s been lovely and romantic and absolutely terrible for my diet :) I blame the icecream incident entirely on him. Luckily he likes the outdoors as much as I do, so there was lots of getting out and walking involved. Unfortunatly some of that walking was up and down hilly bush tracks and my knee is now pretty stuffed.
I also had a big rowdy girls night at my place which was a lot of fun - we got drunk, ate cheese, went out for dinner, played board games and watched Dirty Dancing - the perfect girly night!
So with all of these things I was pretty astonished to jump on the scales and weigh in at 68.0kgs - my lightest ever, and 600g below my last weigh in, which was admittedly at TTOM so a bit high, but that means I’ve at least held steady over the week.
Got to be happy with that

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been more than 30 days!
I have broken one of the rules of my challenge - the one about only three drinks in a night. But I have decided not to go back to the start as the key components of the challenge - no chips, lollies, chocolate, cake or fast food - are still entirely intact. So it’s a slightly modified challenge now, but it’s still on!
This week I gained 400g, taking me back up to 68.6, but it was TTOM so I expect that is all water and not really a gain at all. Should have a loss next week.
I’m still not exercising. I can’t run because my knee still aches a little and I’m scared to make it worse, and other types of cardio just seem so boring. I know running seems boring too - but not as boring as the cross trainer or bike as far as I’m concerned. I plan to get to the shops and buy some good trainers soon, and then I’ll get back into it. My sister/physio has given me some exercises to do in the meantime that should make it better when I do get back into it. I’m still going to dancing and I had a lovely walk on the weekend.
In the meantime, laying off the junk seems to be at least maintaining my weight, so it should start to drop off again when I get back to exercising!

One quarter of the way there! Still on track, although I’ve skated close to the line a couple of times - Hot chocolate anyone? There’s been no actual chocolate, no chips or lollies or fast food over 500cals. (There’s been Subway and Japanese, which are under 500, but no Red rooster or MacDonalds etc)
There’s been Popcorn, but only the microwave stuff, not the buttery ones from the movies, and only one pack a day, and only a couple a week, not every day. I even made up some to take to the movies with me, and just bought a diet coke!
So yeah, still on track. No exercise yet, I still can’t run and the cross trainer is so boring! But I’ll try to get to the gym after work today.
